OOPS! Day late and a dollar short. Anyway here are my Friday Five.
You have just won one million dollars:
1. Who do you call first? Assuming my husband already knows, ;o), my mom.
2. What is the first thing you buy for yourself? After paying off all our bills, a new vehicle, or maybe two!
3. What is the first thing you buy for someone else? I'd get my parents a new home.
4. Do you give any away? If yes, to whom? I would give a full 10% to our church, Hill Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Then I would pay off our kids' student loans.
5. Do you invest any? If so, how? We've never had much luck in any investments; however, I would be sure to consult a financial advisor about a retirement fund.
It's hard to believe that January is over already! Super Bowl tomorrow!!!! Go Panthers!

Our soon-to-be daughter-in-law, Christy got some awesome news today... or as our son said, "more than awesome." Christy received word that she has been accepted to attend an International Conference in Cuba for submitting a paper on Globalization of Education. She is a senior at Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania, majoring in Literature, I believe. She is a very bright young woman and plans to continue on to study for her PhD in British Literature. We are praying that our son is hired by a firm in the Phoenix area and that Christy will be attending school there. Both have contacts which could lead to this end. It would be wonderful if they would live so close to us!
Yesterday was the first day of my classes at VU (Virtual University.) Since I wasn't home, I looked at the assignments last night. I'm so excited about learning more about HTML, so I can manage my websites better. I'm taking HTML 1 and Intro to Personal Journaling.
Saw my first real roadrunner today. We were on our way home from Flagstaff this afternoon and what should run in front of us, but a roadrunner. They really do run fast... but we didn't see a coyote chasing it! LOL!
My first time playing... you can play here.
1. The one kitchen appliance I just could not live without is my microwave oven.
2. My desk always looks like someone came along and emptied a filing cabinet on it.
3. The clocks in my house are always on time.
4. The one television program I just can't stand is "A Simple Life, with Paris Hilton. Thankfully it is not an ongoing series!
5. The one television program I try to never miss is Joan of Arcadia on Friday night.
6. When it comes to housework, I really hate dusting.
7. If I could re-design my living room, the first thing I would do is make it bigger, and then put in new carpet.
8. I wish I had a bigger computer/craft room in my house.
9. When someone points a camera at me and says 'Smile!' I usually smile. There was a time when I would have turned away or hid, but not anymore.
10. I expect I'll have my income tax done by the first week in February, assuming we have our W-2s by then. However, since I also expect to pay in this year, I doubt I will file until April.
nothing today! Actually, I've been trying to fill out the order form for my daughter's wedding invitations. It's not as easy as it seems. There's always one more thing to consider ordering from the catalog. I finally settled on just the invitations and related items. Other things which I seriously considered, I believe I can find in a local store at a better price. I also worked on the labels for the little wedding favor tins which will be filled with mints. I think I like the way they turned out. See one here.
Nothing going on today... didn't scrap, didn't create anything, did talk on the phone... Oh well, there's always tomorrow.
I spent just about all day working on a scrapbook about my daughter and her husband. Did three pages and they do look pretty good, if I do say so myself. You can see my efforts in my gallery. Below is a sample... this depicts my son-in-law's romantic marriage proposal. He took her out in a boat, fishing, and proposed. The banner under the moon is impossible to read in this photo, but it says Hooked on You.

Sorry I haven't been writing. We were invited to Phoenix for the weekend. Since I had a dentist appointment on Tuesday morning, and Monday was a holiday for Gary, we spent Monday night in Flagstaff (where our dentist is located.) We expected some snowy weather in Flagstaff on Monday night and since I'm such a scaredy cat about such things, I was very happy to be in town instead of on the road before daylight.

A father was approached by his small son who told him proudly, "I know what the Bible means!" His father smiled and replied, "What do you mean, you 'know' what the Bible means?"
The son replied, "I do know!" "Okay, said his father. "So, son, what does the Bible mean?"
"That's easy, Daddy. It stands for 'Basic Information Before Leaving Earth.'"

Am I wrong, or does it look like a whale? This rock formation is located just down the road from where we live.
Some of you may remember Tara aka Sunshine from past exploits. She is a former student of my husband's, in Pennsylvania. Her baby is six weeks old today and seems to be thriving; not that we've received any pics yet to prove this! (broad hint to Tara!) As we consider ourselves another set of grandparents to little Emma, we really would like some pics. Someday... (sigh) At least we do hear from Tara quite regularly and I even got to hear Emma "talk" last night!
... and she had wonderful news! For the uninformed, Christine is also getting married next year, September, and has been going 'round and 'round with the bridal shop over her gown. A little glitch in all the planning is that Christine is entering the US Air Force next month and is trying to get as many of the details for the wedding done before then. Anyway, the gown arrived yesterday and it's gorgeous! She tried it on with her veil, tiara, and new "wedding jewelry" and is very happy. Her mom is also very happy, as I just knew we had bought the perfect dress and certainly didn't want to go dress shopping again!!
Now, what would any mother think if their 24 year old son IMs them with the single word, MOM!! ? And then the sentence, "I am scared!" I tell you my heart just dropped below the carpet! Well... as the conversation continued, it became quite clear that he actually had good news. For those of you who don't know, our son will be graduating with his Masters in Electrical Engineering in May. He is also getting married in August and is frantically looking for gainful employment.
Anyway, he has been corresponding with a contact in the Phoenix AZ area and finally received a response today. This contact has set Jason up with a phone interview sometime in the coming week. Needless to say, Jason is really nervous about it as he feels he doesn't interview very well. We do think he will do just fine and can't wait to find out if this opportunity pans out. If not, the same company has openings in Virginia and another place, so it all looks fairly promising.

Thanks Lorri, great questions!
Does a clean house indicate that there is a broken computer in it?
Why is it that no matter what color of bubble bath you use the bubbles are always white?
Is there ever a day when mattresses are NOT on sale?
Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with the hopes that something new to eat will have materialized?
On electric toasters, why do they engrave the message 'one slice'? How many pieces of bread do they think people are really gonna try to stuff in that slot?
Why do people keep running over a string a dozen times with their vacuum cleaner, then reach down, pick it up, examine it, then put it down to give their vacuum one more chance?
Why is it that no plastic garbage bag will open from the end you first try?
How do those dead bugs get into closed light fixtures?
Considering all the lint you get in your dryer, if you kept drying your clothes would they eventually just disappear?
When we are in the supermarket and someone rams our ankle with a shopping cart then apologizes for doing so, why do we say, "Its all right." It isn't all right, so why don't we say, "That hurt, you stupid idiot?"
Why is it that whenever you attempt to catch something that's falling off the table you always manage to knock something else over?
Is it true that the only difference between a yard sale and a trash pickup is how close to the road the stuff is placed?
In winter, why do we try to keep the house as warm as it was in summer when we complained about the heat?
How come we never hear any father-in-law jokes?
If at first you don't succeed, shouldn't you try doing it like your wife told you to?
Yes, we thought we had a long day; riding over two hours for groceries (one way.) However, I think there were a couple of football teams to have it worse! Poor Tennessee Titans and St. Louis Rams! After coming so far in the playoffs... to lose! What a bummer! I'm not really "into" any of the teams in the playoffs, but it was nice for Carolina to win. Maybe they'll make it to the Super Bowl!

Can you guess what my charms represent? This is my new Italian Charm Bracelet. I have to admit that I had never heard of these until DJ started her contest, but today we went shopping and while waiting to go into the movie theater, I decided to check out a new store in the mall. The store is amazing... called Scentsations and has a very impressive selection of Yankee candles. However, the very first thing you see when entering the store is a huge display of Italian Charms and bracelets. I got to looking at them and just couldn't resist starting my own little bracelet. Isn't it adorable?
We also replaced the paper shredder that I killed this week. Very good bargain at Sam's Club.
I can't believe that I didn't come up as Crush instead of Dory! Will wonders never cease!

I broke the paper shredder yesterday! There I was, shredding away all those end of year shreddables... and it started smelling a little funny. So I turned it off and cleared the teeth out good, turned it back on and.... nothing. Had to rip the rest of the papers by hand. Guess it's time to get a new shredder.
YAY! I actually completed five days in a row of exercising! Every morning I have gotten my bod out of bed (not early mind you,) and did the one mile WATP DVD. This is such a milestone for me! I have always hated to exercise and about a year ago realized that if I wanted to continue on my downward spiral of weight loss, I would need to add exercise in the mix. After much whining and sniveling, I purchased the set of Walk Away The Pounds DVDs with Leslie Sansone. I love all of them! It's still a feat to get in the mood to actually DO it but for some reason this week I must've had an angel kicking my bootay in gear! LOL!
I feel pretty bad right now. I wasn't satisfied after eating my breakfast this morning, so decided Fat Free Cranberry Orange muffins which I had in the cupboard, sounded so good! So.... I made the muffins and promptly ate two of them. I am not eating my normal lunch since I had the muffins. Hope that's enough to balance out the points for the day and hope it keeps my weight from soaring this Saturday at weigh-in.
Yay! The doorbell just rung and UPS delivered my new attachments for my Sizzix machine. I bought the System Converter Kit which enables my Sizzix machine to emboss as well as making diecuts. I'm so excited!
Today I started my exercise program again. I haven't been exerting myself much at all since before Christmas. I pulled out the Walk Away The Pounds (WATP) DVDs and did 1-Mile this morning. It sure did tucker my muscles out! I think I'll stick with the 1-Mile for a while. I've done quite well with maintaining my weight this holiday season, however, it's a little disappointing that I've only lost about five pounds since last Christmas. Just have to keep focus on the fact that I have lost about 75 lbs in the past two years. When my fingers aren't swollen, my rings are way too big! Today is a slim day. :-)
I actually started answering some correspondence today! Finished three fairly long letters (snail mail.) I need to write several more though, before I will give myself permission to start a scrapbook layout. So many ideas... so few hours in a day... [sigh]
I'm finally feeling a lot better than I have for a few days. This is the strangest illness I've ever had. Although I had some cold symptoms for about a week, my main symptom has been tiredness. I've been sleeping about ten hours each night and all day yesterday I dozed off and on. Hope it's over now.
Today we took the Christmas tree down and put the living room back in order. Tomorrow I will finish up getting odds and ends put away. Then I need to get back to doing some scrapbooking. I have so many ideas and just need to put them into practice!
Anyone for New Year's Resolutions? I don't generally make these, since it's just asking for failure. However, I am committed to reaching my weight loss goal, hopefully in time for our kids' weddings next summer. I sure would like to look "smashing" in my new dress (don't have one yet, but I will.) Exercising begins again, tomorrow morning. I haven't been consistent in a couple of months, so that will be a major goal for me.
It really sucks being sick as we enter a new year! However, I did manage to prepare the traditional Pennsylvania Dutch New Year dinner... pork and sauerkraut with mashed potatoes (the real kind, not instant!) It was a wonderful meal... and now... back to the normal world of low fat! Our big treat this past couple of days has been tuning in to the Sci-Fi channel to watch The Twilight Zone marathon. I forgot how much fun that show can be! After all, when the choices are re-runs and college football, anything goes. Tomorrow we will probably see another movie, as we journey into Farmington for our groceries.
