Still Alive and Kicking!

Yes, I am still here... just a little overwhelmed with all my activities at the moment.

Son in Phoenix
Last Tuesday afternoon, hubby and I drove to Phoenix for the opportunity of seeing our son. Son had a job interview in the area and the company flew him out for it. We are very excited about the prospect of having son and future DIL living only five hours away! It's still up in the air, but a possibility, since he has had other interviews and job offers. His interview went very well and was finished early in the day, so we all saw a movie before going downtown to see the sights of Phoenix. (photos to be posted in my gallery soon.) We ended up at Hard Rock Cafe for dinner. We enjoyed the atmosphere and I was quite surprised out how good the food was. During our day and a half in the Phoenix area, I finally went to David's Bridals and found a "mother of the bride" dress for the two weddings this summer. You can see it here. I am buying the dress in the periwinkle blue color. I tried on several dresses and found one I REALLY, REALLY liked, but it only comes in ivory, and I just didn't think it would be right to wear any shade of white as part of the bridal party.

Daughter Still in Training
Our daughter is beginning her fourth week at AF Tech School and so far is doing quite well. She called us Easter Sunday and then again last night. She has earned a leadership position and currently maintains a 95% in her studies. Her one weakness at the moment seems to be doing stomach crunches (45 in under one minute.) She passed the test but said it was really hard, so she needs much more practice... (as if I could do even ONE crunch! LOL!) So... all is well on the military front in our family. Her graduation date is currently July 7th and we are all looking forward to that day.

Friday Five

I am responding to questions from January 2, 2004. This was before I "found" Friday Five. If you are interested in playing, click here.

What one thing are you most looking forward to . . .

1. ...today? Hearing back from my daughter. We were gone for the day and Christine left a message on our machine. :-( I hope she calls back...

2. ...over the next week? JOY! JOY! Our son is flying out from PA, for a job interview in the Phoenix area. We will be driving down to see him. I'm so excited!

3. ...this year? Our son's and daughter's weddings. They are being held about two months apart. (I still need a dress!)

4. ...over the next five years? Enjoying some traveling with my husband. There are so many places we would like to visit before we are too old or infirm.

5. ...for the rest of your life? Being with my husband and doing what I can to support our family.

I'm Still Here!

Sorry I haven't been updating as well as I should. Haven't even gotten to my favorite memes. Just as soon as I get a little more organized... This is the first week of classes for the Spring Semester at Virtual University and I've signed up for three classes, Explore Paint Shop Pro 8, HTML Forms, and JavaScript for Beginners. I'm learning a lot, but it's very time consuming.

Shopping in the wrong store!

It's a real pain when you can't shop in your regular grocery store! We took our weekend shopping trip to Flagstaff, AZ instead of Farmington, NM today. We really like the Walmart in Farmington but ended up shopping at Safeway. Safeway is a very nice grocery store, but since we don't go there often, I have no idea where anything is! And that's the pits! I end up not getting most of the stuff on my list, because it's just too much of a pain to look around for it. The highlight of our trip was getting my Starbucks coffee, which they sell at a kiosk in the Safeway store. Yummmm...

Friday Five...

1. What do you do for a living? I am currently a stay-at-home wife. There are no opportunities for employment since we live on the reservation and I do not want to be a sub teacher.

2. What do you like most about your job?I like that I can organize my day however I want.

3. What do you like least about your job? I really miss being around people all day. I have absolutely no interaction with anyone all day... until my husband comes home. At first I enjoyed the solitude... but I am slowing beginning to miss all the comraderie I had when I worked outside of the home.

4. When you have a bad day at work it's usually because I don't feel good, or I've had a disagreement with my husband.

5. What other career(s) are you interested in?I truly enjoy working in an office as a bookkeeper or secretary. However, I think I might enjoy learning the skills needed to work in a medical setting. Haven't decided in what capacity yet.

Upward Spiral!

Downward spiral just wouldn't be quite accurate, since I'm talking about my recent lack of weight loss activity. I've been very proud of my successful weight loss over the past two years. However, for a little more than a year, I've only managed to maintain (just barely.) On the surface, this would seem to be very desirable. But for someone with another 50+ pounds to lose, this is a very frustrating development. It is true that I haven't really been as diligent as I should be as far as portion control, so I have no one and nothing to blame, except myself. I'm so afraid of the weight creeping back on! Where is that resolve I had in the first year? Or maybe it's easier for me to lose when I'm in a less than happy/content situation at home. I have been maybe a little too comfortable and content with my lot in life since moving to the "middle of nowhere." I miss being around people, but have adjusted... There just isn't anyone, besides my dear husband, and myself, to hold me accountable for my eating habits. Well, my next positive step is beginning my regular daily exercise on Monday morning. And I WILL be more careful about my portion size from now on!! Weight Watchers and Dr. Phil... I'm B-a-a-a-ck!!

No time for life...

Where does the day go?? I am beginning to believe I just have too many irons in the fire! How do others manage their time? I want to do some scrapbooking, but I also want to participate with stuff online. And forget about getting anything genealogic done! I think I need to make myself a schedule and stick to it. Anyone think that would work? I did in fact do a scrapbook layout today, which you can see at Mombear's Scraps, in the gallery. It's the Air Force layout at the bottom of the page. The layout is just about the only thing I got done today, other than the essentials, like making dinner. Forget about cleaning house! lol

More promising news...

I heard from our son today... He has received a job offer, and has a couple more interviews coming up. Very promising, as he should be receiving his Masters degree next month. With the wedding coming up in August, this means he will be able to get settled before then. He will be making a decision by the end of April.

Seven Days in March

We are finally getting caught up on our routine after being gone for a week. As previously mentioned, we drove to Texas to attend our daughter, Christine's Air Force BMT graduation. It was wonderful to see her again and be able to hug her and verify that she was none the worse for wear, after a "harrowing" six weeks. Traffic in the area was horrendous, and we are really hoping she doesn't get stationed there permanently. I am very proud to be an Air Force Mom and Christine bought me a neat t-shirt:

The weekend went by much too quickly, as is always the case for good times. We had basically three days with Christine and her husband, although two were limited to base liberty, while we were able to take her around town on Saturday. We ended up at the zoo and it was fun. We took her back to the base a final time on Sunday afternoon.

Christine is now at her Tech School in Maryland diligently working toward yet another graduation in about three months. We will not be able to attend that one as it is too far away and we have the expense of travelling for two weddings in August and September. (Oh, the joys of parenting adult children!) Truthfully, we are so looking forward to the upcoming weddings and wishing as much happiness for our son and daughter and their spouses as Gary and I have had over the past almost 30 years.

**added content** If you would like to read the entire transcript of my husband's letter to our friends, describing our trip, you will find the link in my sidebar under Seven Days in March.
