And the excitement continues...

A couple of weeks ago, my dear husband was helping to move everything in his old classrooms to a new building at the high school where he teaches. As luck would have it, the filing cabinet he was moving, lost it's balance and fell off of the cart it was on... right onto Gary's big toe! Ouchie!! After a trip (3 hrs one-way,) to the doctor and an x-ray, it was determined not broken. Excellent!

About the middle of last week Dear Husband's left arm was sore, and appeared to be swollen, just above the elbow. We assumed he had somehow bumped it and the muscle was bruised. Well, as the week continued, the swelling spread further, toward his wrist, still very sore... so this morning he called the doctor and had an appointment for this afternoon (yes, another 3 hr drive.) The appointment was for 3:30 and we arrived about ten minutes early. He was called into the back room just after 4:00, later telling me he wasn't seen until around 4:30. The office was extremely busy and we were kind of being "fit in", so no big deal. During the time I waited in the waiting room, I heard a page on the intercom for the doctor to answer a call from another doctor. I correctly assumed it concerned Dear Husband. Gary appeared close to 5:00 rushing me out the door, to go see another doctor. An orthopedic doctor.

A skeleton crew awaited us, as most personnel clocked out at 5:00. Gary was sent right upstairs, while I filled out insurance papers... fun, fun! When I finally joined him upstairs, he was being examined by the doctor, so I sat down to watch the torture. The doctor wanted to verify (several times for some reason) just where the most excrutiating pain was. At last he exclaimed,"This is most impressive!" In fact he said that several times during the exam...hmmmm. There is a rather large soft-tissue mass, so now we must schedule yet another 3 hr trip for an MRI. After that, will be another visit to the ortho doctor and probably a followup with our family doctor. Please keep us in your prayers.

TO BE CONTINUED.....

7/2/04 UPDATE
The MRI is scheduled for July 14th, and follow-up visit with the orthopedist is July 20th.

Monday Madness

1. Bed & Breakfast or hotel? I've never been to a B & B, but I think I prefer the hotel for more privacy.
2. What determines where you stay?(i.e. price, accommodations, transportation, travel package) Usually price is a high priority, but I won't stay at a sleazy looking place.
3. When determining where to stay, do you ever consider the establishment's history? (i.e. it might be haunted, location of high profile crime)Nothing notorious has ever figured in to our plans.
4. Would such considerations sway your decision? Don't think so.
5. Do you try and read the local paper for where you're visiting, to get an idea of what the area's like? We've never truly had a "real" vacation, although we are about to plan one later this summer. Our trips are usually to visit family or for a specific event.

Ewwww... Yard Sales!

Most people who know me, also know that I really do not like going to yard sales, garage sales, flea markets, and such. However, I recently consented to ride along with Gary while he checks out some sales that we passed. The second one didn't look any promising than the first one. However, Gary came back to the van and asked me to come look at something "craft related." I grudgingly left the comfort of our vehicle and walked up the driveway where a very nice woman was sitting. She showed us a small plastic chest of drawers which contain several ink pads as well as a few scrapbook making supplies. I wasn't at all interested in those. She kind of pointed over to a box and said, "That's the stamps." After a moment I decided I may as well check them out, since I was already out of the van... At first glance I was sure that the stamps would be all dried out and cracked, however, I was very wrong! There were several large stamps on top and they were virtually brand new! And so were a few of the small stamps I looked at. We asked how much she wanted for them, and she said $50! Having been checking out stamps very recently, I knew they were worth far more. I was willing to pay that much for sure. Gary asked what I wanted to do and said he had $29. I had $12, so Gary (being the deal maker he is,) offered her our $41... and she accepted it! What a shocker! Anyway, I've spent the past couple of days going through the included catalogs, organizing them (they are DOTS and Close To My Heart stamps,) and have come up with a grand total worth (1999-2001 prices) of $1018.00!! I'm still in shock. I have no intention of keeping all of them, so eBay is about to get some business.

Look What I Found....

in my backyard! Apparently the recent construction in our housing area has disturbed these poor critters. I think it's about five feet long.

Getting Ready...

Last week my husband was out of town for work. This of course gives me a lot of time to think, since I don't see another living soul except when I go to the post office each day. I started thinking about our coming trip to Florida in August, for hubby's 30 yr high school class reunion. Never mind the fact that I'm NOT looking forward to wearing a bathing suit in front of a bunch of stranger (part of the reunion is on the beach,) but I realized that I just do not have any decent clothes to wear in front of a bunch of strangers! LOL! I don't usually share the sight of my very white legs by wearing shorts in public, so I only have maybe one pair of shorts. And all my t-shirts are either too large or a little on the skimpy side.

Sooooo, while we were waiting to see the new Harry Potter movie, I casually mentioned to hubby that I really need some summer clothes for our trip to Florida. He didn't comment so I figured that was that! When we arrived at Walmart for our weekly grocery shopping trip, he reminded me that I had said something about getting new clothes. Now, I know a lot of people aren't crazy about clothing from Walmart, but for someone with limited funds and especially someone on a diet and planning to be in a much smaller body one day, Walmart is perfect for vacation clothing. Although I ended up with items covering two different size ranges, I was able to pick up seven pieces of clothing, including two casual dresses, two pairs of capri pants, and three tops for about $70. Not bad, I'm thinking... However, I do not plan to wear any of them until the trip because I'm afraid if I wash them they will shrink and won't fit so nice for the trip...lol So I guess DJ will just have to see me in my old clothes when I visit her in July!

It's Monday again; so let's have some fun!

1. In your opinion, what is the perfect temperature? 70 degrees with no humidity
2. If you have a garden, what do you plant in it? If not, what would you plant in it? I am currently trying to grow sunflowers and many different yellow flowers in my backyard. I also have some grape tomato plants and so far they look very healthy.
3. What is your favorite summertime beverage? Iced Tea
4. How many times a year do you rearrange your living room? Never! LOL!
5. How fast do you drive in a '55 mile-an-hour' zone? Probably closer to 65.
6. How many minutes per day do you usually talk on the phone? Usually zero. I call my mom once a week and we talk about an hour. My phone never rings.
7. What is your favorite software program? I'm not very good with it, but I really love working with Paint Shop Pro 8.
8. How many music cd's do you own? LOTS AND LOTS!
9. How many memes do you participate in on a regular basis? Lately, this is the only one. I seem to have gotten myself bogged down with too many activities.

More Travel

Since our son's wedding is off, we need to use the plane tickets as they are non-refundable. It just so happens that this year it is 30 years since hubby and I were married, as well as 30 years since high school graduations... so.... we are using the plane tickets to fly to Florida in celebration of both of those events. My husband's class is having their reunion at the beach in Ft. Lauderdale. Except for the daunting prospect of myself wearing a bathing suit in public, I expect we will have a wonderful time! Now, if I can just persuade Dear Husband to spring for the more expensive oceanview room....
