Monday Madness

1. Please tell us a little bit about your job (or your classes). I am a SAHW. Two years ago my DH took a teaching job on the Navajo Indian reservation and there is no opportunities for me to work, currently. So I usually spend my days working on hobbies such as scrapbooking and genealogy research.

2. Do you enjoy your job? I truly do enjoy staying at home for the time being. There are days when I would like to go to a job and interact with people again, but my days at home are full and busy.
3. What would make your job more satisfying for you? More hours in a day?!? LOL!

4. Name one thing you don't like about your job. Probably the isolation, although it usually does not bother me at all.

5. Do you feel you are compensated adequately for what you do? Yes, DH is quite generous... of course I take care of all our finances! LOL!

6. Any thoughts on social security and health benefits? Not really. I know they are a big concern for most people as they get older. I never considered social security as a sole income for retirees, so as a supplement to other retirement income, it should be adequate, and since DH is retired from the military, our medical benefits are also sufficient. Not that it isn't a pain to come up with the co-pays and deductibles... but I guess I'm very philosophical and just realize, that's life...

7. What are your thoughts on the current minimum wage? Oooooo, this might be a touchy subject! Personally I don't think the minimum wage should be increased, except maybe a cost of living hike periodically. I believe the minimum wage was put in place for the unskilled worker and kids in and/or just out of high school. It was not meant to be a wage to support a family. I understand there is a huge population which cannot qualify for anything but minimum wage jobs. However (another controversial topic,) I also don't think it is the government's place to "rescue" everyone from themselves. I sincerely believe that people's choices over time, either lead them to success in their lives, or not. Success being defined as being able to support themselves and family. Maybe not in a mansion, but maybe in a nice apartment or a comfortable house. No one is "entitled" to more than they are willing to work for. WHOOPS! Better get off my soapbox now!

8. What kind of advice do you (or would you) give your children regarding their future and their career choices? Both of our children have graduated from college and are currently content in their career choices. However, we did suggest military service to our daughter, primarily because she had just graduated and did not have any job prospects. The military was mentioned as a means to acquire much desired experience in her job field. She is quite satisfied (once boot camp was done, of course) with her decision to join the Air Force. Our son is an Electrical Engineer and in the process of acquiring experience with his first job.

9. What is your 'dream job?' Well, my favorite job was when I was a civil service secretary for the Air Force in Germany. Since then I have worked helping people solve their credit history problems and I was an accountant. I much prefer the secretarial position. So I can't say that I have a real "dream job" in mind, but working as an excutive secretary would come close.

10. At what age will you be (or were you) able to retire? I'm not real sure what age I will choose to not seek employment anymore, but if/when we are able to be completely out of debt, both DH and I could retire at age 62. We currently do not own a home so I don't include a mortgage when I say out of debt. We could still do it if the only debt we have is a mortgage and maybe one car payment.
